2013 Trip - Day 14 Sunday - Tokyo Disney Sea

Sunday, September 2nd
Today was what we thought was going to be our last Disney Park day (but it wasn't) so we made sure we were up early, had breakfast and then we headed to Disney Sea for park opening.....huge mistake - the lines to enter were CRAZY!  It was all due to the security - bag check. Not enough cast members to handle the amount of people entering the park.  We walked through Mediterranean Harbor and then over to Mysterious Island to acquire fast passes to Journey to the Center of the Earth.  I had wanted to go on this ride but when we were there on Thursday the fast passes were all gone by the time we got there and the wait time was over 2 hours! Plus there is not a single rider line for this attraction.  So this morning we headed over right away and our fast pass return time wasn't until 10:30 a.m. - not too bad. This park is so beautiful that we just strolled around.  We kept finding ourselves back at the same spots we saw on Thursday because we really LOVED it here.  I can't even begin to explain how unique Disney Sea is.  Disney fans in the U.S. would be awe struck if this park were here.  Daisuke had mentioned that the Japanese really weren't too happy with this park when it opened because it's not a typical Disney park.  We couldn't believe it when he told us because we thought Sea was the coolest Disney park EVER!!

We explored The American Waterfront until it was time for Journey....and let me say that this is my all time favorite Disney attraction!  We had a blast on this ride.  So much fun that we got ourselves another fast pass for 7:30 pm!  After Journey we took the electric railway over to Port Discovery and explored a little.  I purchased my second popcorn bucket - the Toy Story Mania bucket with pepper popcorn.  Thomas liked it but the caramel flavored popcorn was more to my liking.

We basically didn't go on any other attractions.  We wandered around some more and ended up in Cape Cod - where I went into the Duffy/Shellie May store and couldn't decide if I wanted the 17" bears.  Thomas talked me out of it (and in hindsight I am pretty mad about that) and I ended up getting 2 small ones that could be used as Xmas ornaments.  We then had lunch at the Cape Cod cook off - I loved the art work and theming in here very Colonial American.  After lunch we headed back to our hotel for our usual  mid -day break from the heat.  As you can tell, we adopted our WDW practice of mid day breaks because it was just so hot out.  It was really brutally hot and humid.  I had plans to meet up with Yoshie and some of her friends at 4:00.  So we relaxed for a few hours and then headed back to Disney Sea.
Here I am in my new Tokyo Disney Mickey shirt waitin' for the monorail.

Our meeting place was Indiana Jones, but because it was so hot Yoshie suggested we head to the New York Deli for some refreshments. It was so nice to meet Yoshie and her friends and to exchange Omiyage with them and trade Disney pins :) they were so very nice to us.  I hope someday we can welcome them at Disney World.  They gave us tickets to Big Band Beat which I so really wanted to see!  We were able to spend an hour or so with them at the NY Deli and before we knew it The Big Band Beat show was about to start so we  had to say goodbye and head into the theatre.  Let me just say that the theatre was gorgeous. The show was fantastic - Mickey Mouse playing the drums may not sound exciting but let me tell you it was fantastic!  The entire show was great. - the music and the singers and dancers were definitely Broadway caliber (and I'm a NY girl saying that).

After the show we went back to the New York deli for some dinner because it was close by and when we walked passed there were plenty of tables available.   The food was really good (again) and we really enjoyed it.   After dinner we headed back to Journey to the Center of the Earth for our 7:30 fast pass.  I LOVE this ride! It is so much fun! And even though we rode it earlier I still jumped when the lightening crashes near you! It's hard to describe this ride but you go into the depths of the Earth, and then get propelled really fast out of a volcano.  It's crazy good!!! After Journey we strolled around the park before doing some shopping for souvenirs and heading out.  I was sad because I love this park so much. We had to go back to the room and pack our bags tonight because tomorrow was check out day :(

Next post can be found HERE - Day 15 Monday - checking out of Tokyo Bay and into our next hotel..

  1. I can't believe how hot it must be for the cast members in the character costumes!

    1. It was VERY hot and humid! I know here at our WDW parks in the states the character cast members are only outside for an allotted amount of time. I am sure the same or similar protocol is followed at TDR as well.
