2013 Trip -Day 11 - Thursday - Tokyo Disney Sea

August 29th

Thursday

I was so excited this morning because today we were going to Disney Sea!  We weren't at breakfast as early  as I would have liked this day. I think we went down to the restaurant at 8:00 or so.  We aren't big breakfast eaters so it literally takes us all of 15 minutes to eat cereal and fruit and we are on our way to the monorail.  Another beautiful, sunny and HOT day! Let me just say that Disney Sea is the most impressive Disney park -- ever.  From the minute you walk in you are just staring in amazement.  There was a band playing when we entered the park (and they were great) and as soon as we entered Mediterranean Harbor we couldn't believe how gigantic it was! Obviously, I started out going into the shops ;) instantly I found numerous things I wanted to buy but Thomas convinced me to wait until we were on our way out so that I wouldn't have to carry them around all day long.

We started out by just walking around the harbor and found ourselves at the "Fortress Explorations" which was an area that was themed to perfection.  No real attraction was there, just all of these little areas.  Minnie's Topical Splash show was about to start and we had a great view (and a nice breeze) from up on top of Fortress Explorations....plus we were safe from getting drenched up here so this was where we watched the water show.  It was great to see how much the crowd gets into the show, singing along, cheering and LOVING getting soaked!

We then made our way over to the American Waterfront and over to the Cape Cod/New England section.  As someone who has lived in New England (Mid-Coastal Maine) I couldn't believe how much this really resembles New England! There aren't any attractions here (the theming itself is the attraction) so we just looked into the shops and restaurants.  Duffy and Shellie May can be found here.....and I'm now kicking myself for not picking up a Shellie Mae!

It was very hot out so it was a perfect time for a frozen fruit bar! We each tried the tropical fruit flavored one and it was really good! We also enjoyed the orange flavored water sold at both Disney parks.

Our next stop was backtracking our way to New York.  We explored the S.S. Columbia ship which houses a restaurant and a lounge and you are able to explore the decks.  It amazes me the amount of detail on this ship. It was beautiful and so cool to walk the decks and then go up to the top level and see the entire park from up there.

We then walked around and we picked up some fast passes for the Tower of Terror.  We had lunch at the New York Deli counter service restaurant and it was really good!  I had the herbed chicken on ciabatta bread and Thomas had the Reuben.  I will say the counter service restaurants at Tokyo Disney were great.  Lots of choices and very well priced.  We then headed over to Toy Story Mania but the ride was experiencing technical difficulties and was down for the time being.  No big loss as we have this attraction at WDW, so we just looked around the area.  Thomas was really starting to complain about the heat. I will admit that it was getting brutally hot now at the height of the afternoon so, we decided to take a break from the scorching sun and head back to the hotel for a break.

After we cooled off and relaxed for a few hours at the hotel we headed back to Disney Sea at about 3:00 because our fast pass return for Tower of Terror was 3:30.  The Tower of Terror theme was different than the WDW Twilight Zone version.  Here the story revolves around a rich antique collector Harrison  Hightower, who steals an idol that curses the hotel.  The elevator drops didn't seem quite as intense as our WDW version.  All in all I'm glad we experienced it.

After I took the photo above I was politely asked to not take any more so, the ones below are of the gift shop and exterior LOL

It was about 4:30 and we were getting hungry so We decided to try Ristorante di Canaletto, which was a full table service restaurant in Mediterranean Harbor.  We did not  have reservations because you can't make online reservations if you don't live in Japan, but there was only a 15 minute wait since it was only 4:45.  I guess 5:00 pm is too early for most people to eat dinner.  But, we were hungry so this is when we decided to eat.  The restaurant was beautiful - it reminded me of Tutto Italiano in Epcot.  We each ordered a wood fired pizza.  I tried the Margherita and Thomas tried the sausage.  Both were delicious.  The waiters/waitresses in the Tokyo Disney parks had electronic pads that took your order (sent it electronically to the kitchen) and then printed out your bill. Brilliant - we should have that at WDW! Next we headed off to the Lost River Delta and over to Indiana Jones - Temple of the Crystal Skull attraction.  They had a single rider line which was very short (10 minutes) and they actually let us sit together even  though we were on the single rider line!  I really enjoyed this attraction and the theming was so cool!

This photo below of the boarding area is one of my favorites.

Next we made our way to Raging Spirits which was a roller coaster.  We did single rider again and waited maybe 15 minutes.  This worked out fine. Thomas was in the car directly  behind me.  I did not expect this ride to go upside down! It felt too slow to accomplish that, but it did! I guess I'm so used to Rock N Roller-coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios because that ride goes super fast 0-60 in 3 seconds!  Raging Spirits was pretty good - it was like Big Thunder Mountain at Magic Kingdom but with a 360 loop.

We then walked over to the section called Arabian Coast and onto an attraction called Sinbad's Adventure which was ADORABLE.  I loved this.  It was a ride along/sing along like Its a Small World, but with much better animatronics and better songs and scenery.  We then took a quick peek into Mermaid Lagoon but it was getting close to closing and the Fantasmic show and we just didn't want to get caught up in the crowd exiting the park after that.  We were  both EXHAUSTED so we headed back to the hotel and called it a night.

As we made our way back to the park exit I did some shopping on our way out.
